An overnight sleep study is often necessary to diagnose sleep disorders. During the overnight sleep study a variety of physiological parameters, including breathing patterns, oxygen levels, and brain waves are monitored and electronically recorded. This information is then analyzed and subsequently reviewed by a sleep specialist, who will then make recommendations to manage any identified sleep disorders. The most common sleep related disorders that are identified are sleep apnea, periodic limb movement disorder, restless legs syndrome, and narcolepsy. Many sleep disorders result in insomnia.
